News Item: Hire Association Offers Condolences on the Sudden Passing of Douglas Anderson

We are deeply saddened by the news that Douglas Anderson has passed. HAE offers its sincere condolences to the Anderson family and the wider GAP community at this difficult time. Douglas was a true changemaker in the hire sector and led the way in how our sector innovates and transforms. Together with Iain and Mark, Douglas contributed much to our sector, but also as an advocate for family-owned businesses, construction and Scotland. He will be much missed by his family, friends and colleagues.

Paul Gaze, HAE CEO, said, “From all of the staff and members of the Association, we pass on our deepest condolences to the Anderson Family, GAP Group colleagues, and friends. GAP Group is one of the major UK hire businesses and Douglas will be well remembered as a passionate champion of the hire and rental sector. Douglas had a great way with people, and every meeting with him was an opportunity to learn from a master of the industry. Rest in Peace, Douglas.”

Indeed, HAE honoured Douglas for his amazing contribution to the industry with our highest accolade back in 2016, when he was the recipient of the Chair’s Award at the Hire Awards of Excellence held at 8 Northumberland Avenue in London.

Current Hire Association Chair, Phil Leahy said, “The industry has lost a real visionary and true gentleman with the sudden passing of Douglas Anderson. When you met Douglas, you remembered the conversation for a long time afterwards, as did he.

“A meticulous, witty and very clever businessman who has helped change the shape of UK hire. Our thoughts go out to Iain, Mark, and all of the Anderson family and the wider GAP Group, and friends. Douglas will be sorely missed by all.”
