News Item: HAE EHA Public Affairs Update May 2024


New Scottish First Minister Confirmed
Following the announcement on 30th April that Humza Yousaf will step down as First Minister of Scotland the SNP conducted a leadership election.

On 7th May John Swinney, the only nominee, became the new SNP party leader and was sworn in as First Minister on the morning of 8th May, at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.

There were some other changes to the Scottish Cabinet:

  • Kate Forbes was appointed Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Economy with responsibility for Gaelic
  • Shona Robison, previously the Deputy First Minister is now Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government

    2025 Kings Awards Opens
    The King’s Awards for Enterprise, formerly The Queen’s Award for Enterprise, started in 1966 and are the highest official UK honours for British businesses. The 2025 awards opened for entries on 6th May and British organisations that excel in innovation, sustainability, diversity and international trade are eligible to enter.
