Position Available: Apprentice Plant Maintenance Fitter

Start Date: September 2024, ready for a new academic year. An earlier start date may be possible but it will depend on age and experience.

Location: Champion Hire Leeds Depot, 44 Knowsthorpe Lane, Cross Green Industrial Estate, Leeds, LS9 0PF.

Working Hours: 7:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday (40 Hours). No evening or weekend work.

Job Responsibilities:

 Daily duties and responsibilities to include:

  • Maintenance, serving and repair of typical construction site equipment. This includes Mini-excavators, Dumpers, Rollers, Wacker Plates, Disc cutters & Power Tools.
  • Documentation and filing of performed checks.
  • The role will be predominantly Depot based, however, shadowing of a Fitter for on-site callouts will be a part of your progression.

    Apprenticeship Training:

    • Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you will receive an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Land-based Service Engineering;
    • Functional skills in maths and English (if required);
    • Apprentices will attend Askham Bryan College in York on block release. There will be 10 study blocks each academic year which are Monday to Thursday, 9-4pm;
    • It is expected that the Apprentice will either commute daily to college or stay in catered campus accommodation. All associated expenses will be covered by Champion Hire.
    • The Apprenticeship will take 2 years to complete. October 2024 to October 2026.

      • Important Considerations:

        This is a hands-on physical role, maintaining and repairing items of plant and a variety of petrol, diesel and electric powered equipment. The role will include working both inside and outside.

        • GCSE or equivalent English, Grade 4
        • GCSE or equivalent Maths, Grade 4
