PRESS RELEASE: Urgent Action Needed for Eco-Design Lighting Changes

Urgent action needed for Eco-Design lighting changes. Call to all Theatre's, School Drama Depts., Production Companies and Venues.

The EU's proposed Eco-Design Working Plan 2016-2019 will require ALL stage lighting to meet new efficiency targets in line with domestic and office lighting. As we understand it, the new regulation will affect just about every lighting fixture used for entertainment lighting, including LED and Tungsten.

The new regulations as proposed (intended to start from 1 September 2020). We are assured by experts that the technology doesn’t currently exist to meet these new regulations and is unlikely to exist by 2020 when it will come in to force.

We are urging those involved in lighting to have their say on the current EU consultation before the 7th of May. You can find out more from PLASA, the Professional Lighting & Sound Association HERE.

The more people that respond to the consultation, the more the EU will listen, so individual voices count.
