PRESS RELEASE: MCS Workshop Mobile transforms in the field maintenance and repair operations

MCS, leading hire software experts, has launched a revolutionary mobile app that simplifies and automates a hire company's Workshop and Maintenance function. MCS Workshop Mobile enables workshop fitters 'in the field' to view and update their works orders in real-time, ensuring jobs are carried out to the highest standard. The Android-based app also allows Workshop Managers to allocate works orders 'live' to the most suitable engineer and view the status of all workshop jobs.

Guy van der Knaap, Managing Director of MCS, comments: “Equipping your workshop fitters with the latest smart phone technology means they can update the status of workshop orders 'on the spot', add associated notes, order spare parts and synchronise this information with the MCS-rm hire management system.”

Guy continues, “The app eliminates the need to print out works orders and checklists, and helps improve data integrity and duty of care obligations. Depot managers can analyse the overall efficiency of the workshop, gain up-to-date visibility of their engineers’ activities and increase control over their resources, resulting in better communication and new operational efficiencies.”

MCS Workshop Mobile has evolved through MCS' recent partnership with BigChange, providers of mobile workforce management solutions, and draws upon their powerful GPS vehicle tracking and resource scheduling technology. Martin Port, CEO of BigChange adds, “With MCS, we have developed a really strong partnership built on similar values and leading edge technology.”

Nixon Hire, a leading UK rental company that specialise in the hire of plant, tools, accommodation units, portable toilets and site equipment, has recently made the MCS Workshop Mobile app available to its Repair and Maintenance team:

“Using the MCS Mobile Workshop made complete sense,” says David Balmer, Project Manager at Nixon Hire. “The key driver for us was letting our Workshop Engineers access their works orders in the field, which frees up time to focus on the job in hand, reducing the demand for paperwork and provides a much better service to our customers.”

The hire industry is experiencing a rapid acceleration in the adoption of mobile technology to manage their everyday operations and activities. MCS Workshop Mobile forms part of larger suite of mobile apps that MCS are developing to streamline different business functions within a hire company, from sales and marketing to transport and logistics.
