PRESS RELEASE: GAP's Charitable Foundation Update

GAP Hire Solutions’ Charitable Foundation, GAP Giving, donated £80,000 to 98 charities during the financial year 2017 / 2018.

GAP Giving was set up in 2015 with an annual budget of 0.5% of Group profits to distribute to charities and worthwhile causes. All of the company’s 1,700+ employees situated across 140 locations nationwide are encouraged to get involved with charitable endeavours and to apply to GAP Giving for support.

There are various ways GAP Giving provides assistance:

Donation

Any employee can apply for a donation to their chosen charity. This can be any local, national or international charity that they feel would benefit from their support. Charities who received a donation last year include: The British Heart Foundation, St. Peter's Hospice, Guide Dogs, Parkinson's UK, Glasgow Children's Hosiptal Charity, Brittle Bone Society, Lighthouse Club and Teenage Cancer Trust.

GAP Match

If staff are participating in a sponsored event, the company has a scheme called GAP Match. GAP will match whatever the employee has raised up to the value of £500. GAP’s staff took part in various events including skydives, charity boxing, marathons and football matches resulting in over £18,000 being donated via the scheme. Various charities benefited including MIND, Teenage Cancer Trust and FORCE.

Charity of the Month

Every region, division and head office department in GAP is given the opportunity each year to choose a charity to receive a donation. £24,000 was donated through this scheme including donations to The Trussell Trust, Devon Air Ambulance and Prostate Cancer UK.

Shaneen Waddell, Head of GAP one, commented: “We are delighted that GAP Giving has been able to support so many deserving charities. The foundation’s contribution of £80,000, together with the money raised by our selfless employees, provides assistance directly to those who need it most, both in our local communities and across the globe.

“We are really proud of GAP’s family heritage; philanthropy and being a good corporate citizen has always been part of the fabric of the business, but in the last three years we’ve been embedding it even further in the company’s culture. As of July 2018, £265,490 has been donated since GAP Giving was established.

“GAP Giving will continue to make donations to support worthy causes close to our heart; over £15,000 has already been donated in our new financial year which started on 1st April.”

In total, GAP Giving has donated £67,000 to the Lighthouse Club - the only charity that provides financial and emotional support to the construction community and their families. Working in partnership with the Lighthouse Club, GAP recently launched a Mental Health Awareness Initiative. You can read about it here.
