PRESS RELEASE: GAP Shortlisted for three Herald Scottish Family Business Awards
GAP Hire Solutions has been shortlisted for the Business Innovation Award at The Herald Scottish Family Business Awards 2017.
The awards, which are run in association with Business Gateway, celebrate companies which flourish under family ownership, recognising excellence in areas such as innovation, green credentials and business growth.
In total, GAP has been shortlisted for three awards, with the company also up for Scottish Family Business of the Year (Large) and Green Family Business of the Year awards.
GAP is the UK’s largest independent rental equipment company, hiring out a range of equipment from their eight divisions to industries including construction, utilities and events. The award nominations follow a record-breaking year for the business in which they announced a 11% hike in turnover to £175m and seen pre-tax profit increase from £15.8m to £17.1m.
GAP’s Joint Managing Director Douglas Anderson commented: “In an industry where the competition regularly claims to be number one, it’s difficult to differentiate and build your own identity. Remaining family owned and operated has allowed GAP to do just that and stand out as a business that not only has innovation as part of its DNA, but one which built commercial success around this approach. We are extremely proud to have maintained consistent growth and strong financial performance without ever compromising our original values and vision.”
GAP’s vision is to be the UK’s most innovative hire solutions provider.
Douglas continued: “Our company is driven to innovate and collaborate, with a focus on providing environmentally friendly and efficient hire solutions to our customers. Being finalists in multiple categories is recognition of our ability to listen to customers and in developing new ideas.”
Founded in 1969 by Gordon Anderson and run by his sons Douglas and Iain, GAP has gone from one location in Linwood, Renfrewshire, to 140 locations throughout the UK. GAP’s depot network is supported by a 150-strong workforce at the company’s Head Office in Glasgow. GAP employs 485 staff, 29% of their total personnel, in Scotland. The company has increased its workforce by about two-thirds over the last four years.
GAP is looking to continue its success at The Herald’s Scottish Family Business Awards – the company was named Scotland’s Large Family Business of the Year in 2015. GAP was shortlisted in the Customer Service Excellence category at last year’s event.
The Herald Scottish Family Business Awards winners for 2017 will be announced at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow on Wednesday, 6th December 2017.
