CITB shares bold new plans

The Government has published the Industry Training Board review reaffirming support for the continuation of CITB but setting out actions required to support construction. In response, CITB have produced their Agenda for Change, a six-point plan for reform throughout 2018. For more details on the government report click here.

The government report makes clear that “support for CITB depends on the reform programme being seen through.” It calls for better links between construction employers, trade associations and CITB, with greater engagement with and by SMEs and micro-businesses. The report identifies the grant system as a major opportunity for change, utilising a new IT system, to improve speed and efficiency. It suggests that seeing the grant system in “transactional terms” should be replaced by a focus on the skills needed, not just recouping levy payments.
