The problem of air pollution caused by Diesel exhaust fumes has been well publicised. Its most hazardous component is Diesel particulate that, because of its microscopic size, penetrates deep into our lungs, into the bloodstream and around our bodies. Diesel particulate has been classified as a human carcinogen, increasing the risk of lung cancer and causing a number of other serious health issues.
High concentrations of Diesel exhaust is a particular hazard in the construction industry where Diesel powered machinery is often used in confined spaces alongside workers. Small machines are a particular problem as, up until recently, their exhaust emissions have been unregulated and they do not have the exhaust filters and catalysts that the larger machines use to decrease emissions. Diesel exhaust is covered by COSHH requirements and has specific HSE guidance because of its danger in the workplace. Construction companies have a duty and are committed to providing a safe working environment for their employees.
BISAF saw that there was a need for a device to make the exhaust from smaller construction machines cleaner and safer for workers and developed the Particulator®, a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) that could easily be fitted to small machines. The Particulator® uses established OEM ceramic filter technology and has been independently tested to give more than 99.9% removal of particulate from exhaust.
