News Item: Promoting Careers in Hire with STEM Ambassador Programme

The STEM Ambassador Programme is a volunteer scheme that enables people from a wide range of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) related jobs to support teachers in schools and highlight potential future careers.

STEM Ambassadors make an impact by:

  • Supporting learning: helping young people to understand the real world applications of their learning
  • Illuminating careers: showcasing different careers, providing information on roles and pathways into industry, while also raising awareness of the skills that are important in the workplace
  • Raising aspirations: giving young people the opportunity to meet a wide range of inspiring role models, encouraging them as they think about their future

Learning & Development Officer, Nikki Wyllie, volunteers as an ambassador on the scheme, aiming to promote Careers in Hire and excite students for their career paths, while also supporting HAE EHA’s local community.

Most recently, Nikki joined other STEM Ambassadors at a school, participating in a mock interview workshop, giving students valuable preparation for future scenarios and giving them the opportunity to ask questions about a career in the hire industry.

HAE EHA wants to encourage members to nominate colleagues to sign up as STEM ambassadors, to highlight the industry and wide range of jobs available.

Although mainly aimed at students, the programme can also impact positively on STEM Ambassadors, leading to a sense of achievement, increased confidence and career satisfaction. More information on the STEM Ambassador Programme can be found here.
