Phase 2a of the HS2: High Speed Rail Project Bill has been passed into law, meaning work can start to build a new railway line between the West Midlands and Crewe.

HS2 Ltd will now be able to start environmental work on the route, with the construction set to begin in 2024. Around 5,000 jobs are expected to be filled during the construction of Phase 2a, with many more supported in the supply chain. Once built the railway will also support around 140 permanent jobs, based near Stone in Staffordshire at its maintenance office.
