News Item: Government to Auromatically Enroll UK Firms in a Customs System to Prepare for No-Deal Brexit
The government has said it will start automatically enrolling UK firms in a customs system as part of its preparations for a no-deal Brexit. This is so UK firms can continue to trade with EU member states after the UK leaves the EU.
Firms without an EORI (Economic Operator Registration and Identification) number will not be allowed to trade with EU member states after Brexit. HMRC says all VAT-registered firms in the UK, who have not already signed up to the customs system, will receive their EORI number within the next two weeks. So far, 72,000 companies have registered for an EORI number and the auto-enrolment scheme would mean 88,000 more firms would be registered. For more information on EORI, click here.
