News Item: Government Launches 'Way to Work' National Employment Drive with JobCentre Plus
The UK government has set a target to get half a million unemployed people into work by the end of June 2022, to help speed economic recovery after Covid-19.
The UK government’s Plan for Jobs saw an investment of £400 billion and is being hailed as a success after a rise in employment, but there is still work to do, with around 1.2 million vacancies currently being advertised, 59% higher than levels before the pandemic.
Starting on the 27th January 2022 the 'Way to Work' campaign will be a national drive, mainly targeting individuals claiming Universal Credit. With the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions across the UK, the campaign aims to have these claimants in employment within four weeks rather than the current DWP benchmark of three months.
To accelerate the process of connecting people with work, claimants will spend more time with their work coaches preparing them for a new start. JobCentre Plus will also work very closely with employers to match people to job roles and will target efforts in areas of the country where vacancies are particularly high. HAE EHA works closely with the DWP and JobCentre Plus to raise awareness of the job opportunities available to jobseekers across the hire industry.
