News Item: Glastonbury Festival 2020 is Cancelled due to Coronavirus

Organisers Michael and Emily Eavis have taken the decision to cancel the Glastonbury Festival 2020 amid concerns over COVID-19. On 12th March organiser Emily Eavis said she had "fingers firmly crossed" it would still happen as planned, however after government announcements advising against mass gatherings it became highly likely the event would be cancelled.

The decision to postpone it now will help festival-goers who were expected to pay the balance of their £270 ticket costs by the 1st April 2020. Those who have paid the deposit will have that rolled over to next year thereby ensuring "the opportunity to buy a ticket for Glastonbury 2021", organisers have stated.

The event was set to feature some high-profile artists including Taylor Swift, Sir Paul McCartney, Diana Ross, Noel Gallagher, Herbie Hancock, the Pet Shop Boys and many more. Over 200,000 people, staff and festival-goers combined would have been present at Worthy Farm if the festival had gone ahead in June as planned.

The Eavis's posted an apologetic statement on Twitter, which can be read in full here.

Cancellation of an event on this scale will not only be damaging to the organisers but will have impact all supporting service-providers; staffing and equipment hire (this can include AV and catering equipment as well as fencing, generators and lighting).
