News Item: Events Industry to Return to Normality by Easter Says Culture Secretary

On Wednesday 2nd December, the Secretary of State for culture, media, and sport, Oliver Dowden, delivered a speech at the Major Events Summit, announcing the expected return to normality for the events industry by Easter 2021.

Keynote speaker, Dowden, highlighted that allowing venues in Tier 1 and 2 to host events with audiences (as stated in the Government’s Winter Plan) was a step forward for the industry.

He said "I know it’s nothing like normalcy but at least it provides some progress. More importantly, when we look at the path through to Easter, recent days have seen a stream of positive news about potential vaccines and testing. I really do firmly believe, and I know the Prime Minister shares this view, that a return to normality is firmly within our sights".

He believes that while 2020 was a bad year for most, 2021 will be the year of recovery and 2022 will be a year of celebration.
