News Item: Digger and Dumper Safety Group Focuses on New Guidance
HAE EHA held a hybrid Digger and Dumper Safety Meeting at its head office in Solihull. The meeting focused on the accident rates relating to diggers and dumpers, particularly up to 1.5 tonne diggers and 1-tonne dumpers.
Vice Chair, Neil Bravery and HAE EHA Chief Executive Officer Paul Gaze were joined by 17 representatives from independent, large hire, construction, and manufacturing companies. This included 6 colleagues in the office in Birmingham and 11 joining remotely. We were also supported by a representative from the Health and Safety Executive.
Neil Bravery said: "It was great to get back together and kickstart this really important group. We will be working closely over the coming months with hire organisations, suppliers and manufacturers to develop safety guidance and information around the use of diggers and dumpers.
"Could I say a huge thank you to all who attended and especially to Aaron Watson from Travis Perkins who delivered a comprehensive analysis of this issue."
Paul Gaze said: “It is essential that we work together. We need HAE EHA members to provide crucial information and report any incidents relating to Digger and Dumper Safety. By working across the Hire Industry, and with manufacturers, this will help us improve safety for everyone. The data is confidential and will be only used only to identify trends and allow us to address the issue of safety. Please visit the Incident Reporting Page."
