News Item: Deadline Extended for Businesses to Apply New Product Safety Labelling

The UK's departure from the EU has made it necessary to change the safety labelling on certain products. The CE mark which is used throughout Europe, as an indicator of quality, is now being replaced by UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) labelling, and this will apply to most products available in England, Scotland and Wales.

UKCA marking will grant greater control over quality of goods, ensuring high product safety standards that are expected from all UK manufacturers and suppliers.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a recognisable impact on businesses across the combined nations and the government has recognised the deadline for compliance should be extended. Compliance with safety regulations is now required by the 1st January 2023, an extension of a full year from the original deadline.

The government has been engaging with numerous business groups since the outbreak of Covid-19, which have underlined the impact the pandemic has had on industry. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has delivered seminars and will continue to offer support to businesses through trade associations, including HAE EHA.
