Greener Events Guide
Over the past few months, the Association has been working with Envirowise to deliver sustainability learning programmes to member companies. As a result of our partnership with Envirowise (now WRAP), it transpired that hiring equipment is more sustainable than purchasing equipment, giving our members the edge in marketing the concept: Hire versus Buy – a significant reduction of lifecycle impact, good for the bottom line and good for the planet.
After a meeting with Phil Harding, Senior Policy Adviser (climate change, resource efficiency and sustainable development), Government Office for the South West who is responsible for producing the Greener Events Guide, the unrealised concept of Hire versus Buy has now been included in the Greener Events Guide which is being used by over 8,000 UK events (event managers, venues and equipment suppliers) as a management guide to help reduce the environmental impacts of events.
During 2010, your Association will be implementing a series of programmes that will assist members to achieve BS8555, BS8901 and BS14001 – environmental standards currently at the top of the government’s agenda for UK businesses.
