Hire Association Europe, consisting of HAE and EHA, maintains strong partnerships with a number of MPs across all parties, with the aim to highlight the contribution of the hire industry towards business efficiency, skills, economic and environmental goals.  We will be conducting a series of briefings and member visits over the coming months. This is all part of our focus on raising hire’s profile among parliamentarians and other key decision-makers.

We continue to improve links with organisations, such as the Health and Safety Executive, to make sure that the complexity and diversity of the hire industry is understood and to encourage early warning of proposals likely to affect our members. One of the major benefits of membership is our combined strength as an industry which can help reshape or oppose damaging and costly proposals.

One area where the Association is keen to see recognition of the hire industry’s contribution is on environmental and sustainability issues. As an industry, we have a strong track record of innovative product development and in making a positive impact on rates of recycling and reuse, particularly at a time when the costs of disposal and landfill are increasing and public expectations are growing.
 
Hire Association Europe continues to monitor legislative and other proposals to assess their potential effect on hire businesses.  We are further developing our ability to tap into member’s practical knowledge to sharpen our position on key concerns, principally regulatory burdens and costs. The Association is arranging opportunities for members to meet and get updated on key activities, across the UK and Ireland – further details will be available shortly.
 
At a time of severe recession, the hire industry offers an alternative to major capital outlay, and therefore is directly benefiting other companies, consumers, local authorities and other public agencies. This smart financing is a key ingredient in keeping businesses afloat and in holding down costs to the taxpayer.
