The Government have launched a consultation on emissions from non-road machinery such as construction machinery to implement an EU Regulation governing the European type-approval rules for gaseous and particulate emissions from engines for non-road mobile machinery.
Non-road machinery includes: construction machinery, such as diggers and hand-held equipment like chainsaws and lawn mowers.
The Government are proposing regulations that would limit civil and criminal penalties for non-compliance.
The new emissions requirements are known as “Stage V” and will take effect for new machinery from January 2019
The Department for Transport consultation closes on 10 April 2018. Details can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/improving-air-quality-reducing-emissions-from-machinery
Following the Spring Statement, we are also expecting further proposals on Red Diesel and Vehicle Excise Duty for commercial vans.
